President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Congressman Henry Waxman are aggressively pressuring Democrats to support and pass Congressman Waxman’s Cap-and-Trade bill. The bill is titled "American Clean Energy Security Act of 2009" or ACES. It is coming up for a vote in committee. It will be presented on the House floor for an up and down vote as early as tomorrow.

What is Cap-and-Trade?
The House Energy and Commerce Committee has completed its multi-day markup of the misnamed American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, H.R. 2454. Sponsored by Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA), the bill attempts to impose a system of "cap-and-trade" in order to combat so-called "global warming." This massive, across-the-board household energy tax is being sold to Congress under the slogan "cap-and-trade." This simply means giving the government power to put a cap on the amount of carbon emissions (CO2) produced by the production of electricity, gasoline, and heating oil. This ends up forcing businesses to actively lobby Congress for higher cap levels and to buy permits for the emissions they are allowed.

Rather than calling it "cap-and-trade," it should be called "cap-and-tax"-as it caps Americans' standard of living and taxes our use of products whose manufacture emits CO2.
The 648 page “cap-and-trade” bill has been renamed the "American Clean Energy Security Act of 2009" (ACES). Why the name change? Americans understand “cap-and-trade” is a TAX.
Cap-and-trade is a tax designed to make carbon based fuels like OIL, COAL and NATURAL GAS more expensive by limiting the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) that can be released into the atmosphere. Although the tax will be placed on businesses, they will pass the cost on to consumers. They must do this to stay in business.

Cap-and-Trade would be more aptly named "Cost-and-Tax" because that is exactly what it will do to all Americans. The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, H.R. 2454 (ACES) is designed to do a number of things, but nothing for the environment. No one who is pushing the ACES Act knows or can answer the true cost of Cap-and-Trade or any real benefits to our environment. Do you remember last summer's gas prices? The price of everything went up, all because of the cost of oil. ACES will implement new energy taxes. Although most of these taxes will be placed on businesses, the businesses will pass those costs on to the consumers. Electricity costs will rise astronomically--- estimates range from $600.00 to over $3500.00 a year per family. Oil prices are expected to go up 74%. If you are paying $2.00 a gallon now you can expect prices to jump to $3.48 a gallon. Natural gas prices are expected to rise 55%, and fuel oil has been projected to be between $5.50-7.00 a gallon.
